It was a very comfortable 62 degrees this mornings spin around the park.
A tiny hint of fall was definitely in the air .

Shark........
Getting a little out of hand the last few weeks with all the shark bites on humans
Opted out of going south for this little summer swell and decided
to surf In Va where I knew there would be no shortage of limbs in
the water to lower the odds :) Safety in numbers?

Late March 2015
Great final trip of the season up to the mountains of West Virginia for some snow sliding.
As usually is the case there was fresh snow , powder was ridden, and the weekend crowds have melted away before the snow has.
First chair back up on Widowmaker as the sky tried to go blue on March 28th . Temp 8 degrees at 9 AM.
4 inches of blower powder on top of perfectly groomed slopes. Turns were fantastic.
It took longer to track out Snowshoe on this Saturday late in the season than it normally does midweek mid season since there were far less people on the hill this time of year. After successfully doing so a bonus session consisted of a splitboard/ski tour of an area that wasn't open anymore . It was holding a beautiful powder refresher.Hiking only no lifts.
Heading up
Skintrack stoke .
Virgin pow in the south on March 28th .Here's David going first .
Then I followed .
Yes the turns were very good.
Surf West Virginia
Beyond grateful to be back out riding powder after being on crutches for 5 weeks and non weight bearing at all with a brutal knee injury back in early winter.

February
Record setting cold and snowfall at sealevel in Virginia.
May no snow go unridden!
Teeing off on the golf course
Tree runs in Newport News , lol
Then the sun came out and after a few hours the "slopes" corned up nicely
Back to work on This Old House Newport New England edition with the little green engine that could making it happen to get the material right up to the door

Back out there on the snow !
Bunkhouse fuel courtesy of Trader Joes
Yea... back out there (dork)
Welcome to first chair at Canaan on a snow day :)
Yep , back out there. Been a tough recovery from the knee injury but getting back out in the wild and wonderful winter wonderland of WV has truly been a blessing ! The weather peeps blew the forecast for a 8-12 in. storm that never materialized. An inch or so fell though every night of the trip with some heavy squalls occasionally during the day as well .It was just enough to keep the surface fresh as well as plenty of untouched soft snow in the trees. So fun!
Couple wiggles in some lovely north facing Canaan trees
Also along the edges of the slopes
Timberline trees
and some little piles of wind deposited snow on the edge of the groomer.
Finally getting over a couple month injury + flakes falling from the sky = happiness
The slopes that only open with natural snow still went as the ground was frozen solid with a couple inch base with a touch of softness on top. Didn't hit any rocks . As the fellow next door would say low snow Nirvana.
Hints of blue sneaking through
A walk in the woods revealed a solid base up at 4200
The outdoors are calling to come out and play. Canaan ski area is the peak to the right of the frame .The peak above and slightly to the left of the playset's slide is Bald Knob and the edge of the Whitegrass ski touring area
Checking on a future objective on the way home . A ways to go but worth a look .The beautiful wall on the left goes up a several hundred more feet . Until next time WV .Should be getting real good up here after 6 more inches fell today!
